Name: Tamara Benitez
Occupation: Surfer at Roxy Philippines; Producer/Cinematographer at By The Sea

Describe your perfect day:
Waking up at the beach, in a room with a big window where I can see and hear nothing but nature outside. Surfing perfect waves all day, and enjoying the sunset with my husband and our two dogs.

If you were a local in your hometown, what would you do/where would you go? Please list your favorite hangouts or restaurants.
We moved to Subic Bay almost 2 years ago, and we hope to stay here for many years. Some of our favorite spots: Hana Korean Restaurant in Subic has the best rice and just anything on the menu is great Sunset on the bay. We pack a cooler with some beer and park on the bay just past Lighthouse Marina Resort. All you can eat at Rico's in Olongapo city is a must. Subic is great for sailing. Lighthouse Marina Resort offers sailing lessons. They also do day trips to Sampaloc Cove, which has an easy trek to some pretty waterfalls. The great thing about where we live is the rainforest. From Pamulaklakin [Forest Trail] just outside of Binictican, we get an Aeta guide to take us on trails into the forest. The guides point out important plants and their uses in traditional medicine. They also teach jungle survival, which is useful if you find yourself lost in the forest (it happens!) [Attach video from Tamara’s website here]

What is your favorite travel spot?
I now base my travels on how great the surfing is, so definitely somewhere on the Pacific side. Siargao, just for all it has to offer. World class surfing, good food from all corners of the globe, so many people to meet, things to do, and places to see. It's hard to get bored in Siargao.

What are the top 3 things you always bring when you travel?
Bikini - Roxy makes great all-around bikinis that are good for surfing, Camera - I have a GoPro Hero4 Black with me all the time, and if I have space, I bring my Panasonic GH4 with a Voigtlander f0.95 17.5mm lens from Voozu, which captures great sunset and night shots, Sunscreen - Human Nature makes great, reef-safe sunscreen. They use local, organic ingredients too!
